Hi and welcome to the second Friday in September. I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful Labor Day weekend. Schools are in full swing and the dreary rainy summer we had in the tri-state area is giving way to an early feeling of fall.
As you’re reading this, you may also be thinking of those this nation lost on 9/11. The NYC area is certainly remembering as it is the 25th anniversary of the attacks. Maybe you weren’t thinking about it, or maybe you still feel a significant loss. Either way, we need comfort and warmth. An easy way to bring that to those you love is through food. I hope the recipes I’m bringing you this week will do that.
The first is an Italian recipe with a funny name. Chicken Saltimbocca is simple but satisfying with the richness of prosciutto and the earthy fall flavor of sage. “Saltimbocca” is Italian for “to jump in the mouth,” and its flavor does just that. It’s a simple and comforting but so delicious dinner for a weeknight.
Another comforting food any time of year, but especially in the fall as we head back to school and work after the summer is the humble chocolate chip cookie. This recipe brings a bit of extra depth and warmth with brown butter and toffee. Take the time to make this and you won’t be disappointed.
