Jacksonville school on heightened alert after threat

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — School officials are on heightened alert following a social media threat at a northeast Florida middle school.

Duval County public school officials said in a statement Monday that they’ll be using metal detectors and doing bag checks to monitor students entering Mandarin Middle School in Jacksonville.

While police are investigating the threat, school officials say they’re taking extra precautions to make sure students and staff are safe.

Officials say extra police officers will remain at the school throughout the day and the school will remain on a Code Yellow alert all day.
