On this October 20, 2026 episode of The Bill Bunkley Show (The Briefing), host Bill Bunkley returns after a birthday weekend and a memorable night at Tropicana Field, where the Tampa Bay Rays clinched their World Series berth in a rocking, sold-out stadium. He shares personal reflections on turning 71, his ongoing health journey since his 2018 AML leukemia diagnosis and later heart surgery, the joy of his young grandson, and the importance of counting blessings through a Christian worldview. Bill strongly encourages listeners to vote early—preferring drop-off of mail-in ballots at early-voting sites rather than the mail—and announces his detailed voter recommendations for Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Polk, Sarasota, and Manatee counties are now live on Let’s Talk Faith and Facebook. A caller debates the strength of the Rays fan base, which Bill defends by pointing to stadium location challenges and the promise of the future Tampa ballpark. The show features a heartfelt interview with Sharonda Axon of Seniors in Service about the Foster Grandparent/Classroom Volunteer Program, inviting adults 55+ to mentor and tutor K–3 students in disadvantaged Hillsborough and Pinellas schools (contact: 813-670-7684 or [email protected]). Bill then delivers a thoughtful, nuanced case for voting YES on Florida Amendment 3—the phased reduction of homestead property taxes—arguing it offers needed relief for seniors on fixed incomes while forcing local governments to prioritize spending, even as he respectfully acknowledges legitimate concerns from sheriffs and first responders about public-safety funding. The episode closes with lighthearted Tropicana Field stories (including meetings involving Pedro Martinez and Nick Martinez’s mother) and a call to vote thoughtfully for the preservation of the republic.
